Gorkhali Khukuri

Khukuri is the national knife of Nepal, originating in ancient times. It is an all-purpose knife of the hill peoples of Nepal, especially the Magars and Gurungs in the west, and the Rais and Limbus in the east. The name and fame of the khukuri is so exceptional and not only because it is one very efficient and excellent knife, but the myths it carries within and its religious values have made this knife a true legend. Â Nepalese are commonly recognized as Gurkhas because of their bravery and solidarity. Each and every Nepalese keeps a Khukuri in their homes for protection.

• Keep the blade dry and clean after use.

• Store in a sheath in a cool, dry place.

• Apply light oil to the blade to prevent rust.

Origin & Cultural Heritage

Believed to trace its design to the ancient Greek kopis, the khukuri rose to prominence through the brave campaigns of the Gorkha soldiers in the 16th century, later immortalized during the Anglo-Nepal War and beyond.
