Description

The Sarangi is the national instrument of Nepal, and it is mostly made out of a single piece of wood. Gaine community plays a different kind of sarangi. Carved sarangi are popular in these days. This sarangi has a special carving of lord Ganesh. He is the god of wisdom and learning, as well as the remover of obstacles, and consequently the sign of auspiciousness.

Featuring a beautifully detailed carving of Lord Ganesh, the remover of obstacles, this traditional Nepali string instrument is not only a musical piece but also a work of cultural devotion. Each sarangi is made by experienced artisans who preserve age-old craftsmanship, making it a perfect collectible or gift for lovers of folk music and Nepali heritage.

Context & Use
Heritage & how it’s used

Hand-carved in the Kathmandu Valley from a single piece of Khiro wood, the Ganesh Sarangi brings together Nepal’s musical heritage and sacred symbolism. Traditional instrument makers shape the body, carve the image of Lord Ganesh by hand, and finish each piece individually — small variations in grain, carving, and tone are the signature of true hand-craft.

Traditionally associated with Nepal’s folk music and storytelling traditions, the sarangi is played during cultural gatherings, devotional songs, and community celebrations. Today, many collectors display the Ganesh Sarangi in music rooms, meditation spaces, living rooms, and cultural collections, where it serves as both a decorative artwork and a symbol of creativity, wisdom, and good fortune.

Care Instructions:
  • Keep away from direct sunlight and moisture.
